Learning at FES

This page gives you an insight into the teaching the happens here at Fayston Elementary. Our teachers are highly skilled and work within our district's framework, adopted curricula and common core standards to meet each student where they are at.

Responsive Classroom

Fayston Elementary School utilizes the Responsive approach to teaching and discipline. Please watch the video to understand a little more about the approach. We continue to learn more about student's social emotional needs and adapt and hone our practices every year. We are proud of the safe, predictable and nurturing learning environments we create here at FES.

Fundations/Lucy Calkins/Common Core

Fayston uses a variety of techniques to meet the complex literacy standards of our students. We utilize Fundations as a phonics program. For writing our teachers use Lucy Calkins Units of Study. Our highly skilled teachers use the Common Core Standards to create a unique and robust literacy curriculum that meets the needs of all students. Please take a look at this Bill of Rights to understand our philosophy on literacy instruction.

Project Lead the Way (PLTW)

The HUUSD district adopted PLTW 5 years ago. We use the Launch program, highlighted above, in grades K-5. In grade 6 we use the PTLW Gateway program. We work tirelessly with our district science committee to integrate new lessons and standards in addition to PLTW.
